Networld + Interop, LAS VEGAS, April 28 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ --
InfoVista (Nasdaq: IVTA - Nouveau Marche: 7667), a global provider of
intelligent performance management software solutions today announced the
first end-to-end Wireless Fidelity (Wi-Fi) Service Level Management (SLM)
solution. InfoVista's Wi-Fi SLM solution is designed to meet the service
quality management requirements for large-scale Wi-Fi networks.
Wi-Fi is the industry standard for a collection of related wireless
internetworking technologies. InfoVista's new Wi-Fi SLM solution incorporates
a powerful auto-discovery capability that identifies Wi-Fi access points.
InfoVista measures these access points for signal strength, connected users,
and bandwidth, as well as traditional SLM performance metrics (e.g.,
availability, response time, throughput and utilization). In addition,
InfoVista provides an active agent to measure connectivity from the end-user
perspective, using a real Wi-Fi connection. Active tests (e.g., web site
downloads) provide real-world feedback that can be used to analyze the full
capabilities of the access point in real time.
"Securing and managing Wi-Fi deployments is a top priority for virtually
every IT executive we've spoken with," stated Johna Till Johnson, President &
Chief Research Officer, Nemertes Research, an independent research firm.
"Their biggest challenges include locating rogue deployments, tracking and
managing end-user experience across wireless links, and monitoring performance
of critical applications over wireless links. We expect the need for effective
solutions in this area to increase dramatically as Wi-Fi moves from the
fringes to mainstream deployment in 2003."
InfoVista is launching broad-based Wi-Fi initiatives, including the
integration of Wi-Fi into InfoVista's daily business operations, to secure
true global leadership in Wi-Fi SLM. Some recent related initiatives include
the deployment of Wi-Fi technology in InfoVista training and education
centers, installation of 802.11B access points throughout InfoVista's
worldwide headquarters, establishment of a Wi-Fi technical advisory board, and
creation of a dedicated, multi-vendor Wi-Fi lab.
"InfoVista is committed to becoming the leader in Wi-Fi service quality
management," stated Alain Tingaud, Chairman and CEO, InfoVista. "We see a
groundswell of demand for Wi-Fi SLM from service providers that are deploying
vast networks with tens of thousands of access points and enterprises who are
migrating mission-critical applications to Wi-Fi networks. Both service
providers and large enterprises need a robust SLM solution that ensures
performance is optimized to meet end-user requirements."
InfoVista's Wi-Fi SLM, available to customers immediately, is being
demonstrated publicly for the first time at Networld+Interop Las Vegas in the
InfoVista booth (number 5941) from April 29 through May 1, 2003.
