Motorola Showcases Next-Generation Open Standard Platforms to Enable Operators To Improve Profitability
Thursday May 29, 12:45 pm ET
SUPERCOMM 2003, Booth #23780, World Congress Center, Atlanta, Georgia, June 3-5

TEMPE, Ariz., May 29 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Motorola Computer Group, a part of Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT - News), at SUPERCOMM 2003 will focus on architecture-level platforms designed to help network operators increase profitability by reducing the cost of owning their equipment. This is an integral step in accelerating the telecom industry recovery. Motorola will highlight applications built on open standards such as the new Advanced Telecommunications Computing Architecture (AdvancedTCA(TM)) specification and multi-protocol label switching (MPLS). The company will show network operators and equipment manufacturers how they can simplify development work -- thus increasing profitability -- by using open, integrated hardware and software instead of proprietary systems to power their networks.

"As we all recognize, a return to growth in telecommunications hinges on increasing the profitability of both telecom network operators and equipment manufacturers," said John Fryer, advanced platforms marketing director, Motorola Computer Group. "With common powerful platforms and flexible architectures, systems that currently require a whole shelf will soon be condensed onto a single blade. Multiple applications will be supported in a single chassis. This allows operators to deploy innovative services that may not have been profitable with earlier generations of equipment."

One demonstration will integrate Motorola's application-enabling platforms, based on AdvancedTCA, to show voice, video and data switching at speeds of 10Gb/s without losing quality of service and data integrity -- an ideal platform for building applications such as radio network controllers (RNCs). Motorola will also show MPLS technology that is being used to enable quality of service for Internet Protocol (IP) networks and to create new applications such as network provider based virtual private networks (PP-VPNs).

Motorola will demonstrate the new platform architectures at booth #23780 at SUPERCOMM 2003, World Congress Center, Atlanta, Georgia, June 3-5. For more information about Motorola's advanced platforms, visit www.motorola.com/computer/advancedtca .
