Automakers bet on newcomer Bluetooth for hands-free calling
By GAIL KACHADOURIAN | Automotive News
DETROIT - Six brands are equipping 2004-models for the U.S. market with Bluetooth technology for hands-free calling.
But only 2 percent of the 150 million cell phone users in the United States have Bluetooth-enabled phones, says Matthew Towers, senior analyst with IMS Research in Wellingborough, England.
Automakers are taking a risk by putting Bluetooth systems in vehicles because the systems work only with Bluetooth-enabled cell phones.
