BURLINGTON, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 3, 2003--Bluesocket Inc. (www.bluesocket.com), the leading vendor of open-systems Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) management and security solutions defied technology industry trends by acquiring 160 new customers in the third quarter of 2003, producing results in one quarter that exceeded 12 months of sales in 2002.
During this same quarter just closed, Bluesocket expanded its unique global channel-only sales model by signing up scores of new networking partners.
"The numbers speak for themselves. Bluesocket is helping to drive the adoption of wireless networking within mobile enterprises," said Bob Darabant, vice president of worldwide sales, Bluesocket, Inc. "More and more enterprises are catching on to the advantages of our open systems approach. Also, Bluesocket customers, happy with their pilot deployments, are returning again and again for additional units to manage and secure the rollout of WLANs throughout their offices--department by department, floor by floor, building by building. Our repeat sales revenue is unusually high for a company that is growing so quickly."
A handful of recent sales made by Bluesocket-Authorized(TM) Partners include:
Enterprise: Del Monte Foods, The Weather Channel
Government: NASA, Carson City Court
Universities: University of Poland and the London Business School, where a majority of student use their own laptops to connect to the campus's Cisco Aironet 350 Series Access points.
Hospitals: Scripps Healthcare and Good Hope Hospital, where Bluesocket enables nurses and doctors to roam seamlessly and access patient x-rays from tablet PCs at the patients' bedsides. See Good Hope case study at: http://www.bluesocket.com/customers/GoodHope%20Hospital-WirelessCaseStudy.pdf
"The jury is in on alternative approaches," said Eric Janszen, CEO of Bluesocket. "Enterprises don't want proprietary Access Point/Switch products to secure and manage their wireless LAN. What they're buying are easy-to-deploy Wireless Gateways that integrate neatly into the existing IP fabric, provide Secure Mobility(TM) via the Access Points the enterprise is already using. These gateways support important standard AP features that are coming, such as channel and power control, as new chips from Atheros, Intel and others are built-in to off-the-shelf APs over the next year."
"Bluesocket's Wireless Gateways really help to future-proof our customers' wireless network infrastructures," said Jay O'Callaghan, vice president, Network Solutions, Avnet Enterprise Solutions.
A Cisco Gold Certified Channel Partner and recipient of Cisco Wireless LAN Specialization, Avnet Enterprise Solutions is a Bluesocket-Authorized IT solutions integrator specializing in enterprise network, server and storage solutions that power leading business applications.
In a recent Avnet deployment at Ball State University, Bluesocket was the key component to provide secure authentication and communications through 300+ Cisco access points in 22 buildings across campus.
"Bluesocket's unique open systems approach and high-performance support for class of service assures interoperability for 10,000 simultaneous users operating a wide range of mobile devices we have on campus--from Centrino-based laptops, to PDAs, even the latest Cisco wireless IPT 7920 phones," said O'Callaghan.
"Having wireless expertise is particularly key for us as we consult with our customers about how to extend their networks in a secure fashion," said Avnet Enterprise Solutions President Jim Teter. "Our ability to provide significant value to our customers by selling, implementing and supporting Wireless LAN solutions is greatly enhanced by our close partnerships with Bluesocket and Cisco."
