BURLINGTON, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 23, 2003--Bluesocket, an award-winning vendor of open-systems Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) management and security solutions, today announced that it was recognized as "top startup" in a comprehensive, global market perception study covering the networking industry's hottest sector: business-class 802.11 wireless LANs.
The report, published this month (December 2003) by Heavy Reading (www.heavyreading.com), the market research division of Light Reading Inc., refers to Bluesocket as a leading vendor in the worldwide market for enterprise-class Wi-Fi security and management and lists it among the top four industry leaders, along with Cisco Systems (Nasdaq: CSCO), IBM Corp. (NYSE: IBM), and Hewlett-Packard Co. (NYSE: HPQ)
Heavy Reading's Fall 2003 Wireless LAN Market Perception Study was based on an exclusive, invitation-only survey of 777 purchasers and users of business-class 802.11 products. Survey participants included managers and employees from a wide range of Fortune 500 corporations, public sector organizations, and other buyers of wireless LAN gear. Respondents gave their perception of 73 vendors (30 public, 43 private) in seven product categories, identifying which companies they recognize and consider market leaders in price, performance, quality and reliability, and service and support.
"Results from our survey show that buyers of enterprise-class 802.11 security and management appliances perceive Bluesocket to be one of the market leaders," said Dennis Mendyk, managing editor of Heavy Reading and one of the authors of the report. "Customer perception of Bluesocket is especially strong in the price and product performance leadership categories. Buyers in Asia/Pacific rated Bluesocket No. 2 overall, ahead of both HP and IBM."
Amplifying its findings on Bluesocket's value as a wireless security and management solution, the Heavy Reading Study observed "it's clear that wireless LAN is one of the few areas in which IT managers will be spending real money in 2004. Yet it's equally apparent that enterprises have serious concerns over such issues as security, management and integration of wired and wireless infrastructures."
