GAO TO STUDY OFFSHORING OF ENGINEERING AND IT JOBS
On Aug. 6, Rep. Adam Smith (D-WA) announced that Congress' General
Accounting Office had approved a joint request by Smith and Rep. Jay Inslee
(D-WA) to conduct a study of offshore outsourcing of engineering and
information technology jobs and implications for the future of the U.S. job
opportunities. Smith noted: "I'm extremely pleased that the GAO agrees
that this is a critically important issue that should be thoroughly
examined," and added "I'm very eager to see the study's findings and use
them to improve public policy."
