First CDMA Phone For China Launched By Nokia

STOCKHOLM (Dow Jones)--Nokia Corp. Friday launched its first mobile phone based on the CDMA standard for the Chinese market, part of the Finnish company's bid to maintain its lead over competitors by targeting first-time users in emerging markets.

CDMA, or code division multiple access, is the leading wireless standard in the U.S. and much of Asia, but still lags GSM, or global system for mobile communications, which is the leading standard in Europe.

TeliaSonera will buy Motorola's 35 percent stake in Lithuania's UAB Omnitel for $117 million as part of planned regional expansion, the Nordic region's top telecom operator said on Tuesday.

The deal still needs regulatory approval. It will give TeliaSonera 90 percent ownership of Omnitel, the firm said in a statement.
