Consumers Meet Bluetooth Wireless Technology at CES; Bluetooth Wireless Technology Demonstrated By 156 Companies at CES

OVERLAND PARK, Kan., Jan 13, 2004 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- The prevalence of Bluetooth wireless technology in consumer devices has never been more apparent than at last week's Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. Over 150 members of the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) demonstrated the short-range wireless technology in products ranging from cell phone accessories to automobiles. Noteworthy advances include the first wireless headset for use with both an office and mobile phone, a one-handed Bluetooth enabled keyboard, and an iPod stereo adaptor that streams CD-quality audio over a Bluetooth wireless connection.

"We have been preparing for the day that Bluetooth enabled products reach a level of volume, diversity and quality deserving of the consumer market. That day finally came last week at CES," said Mike McCamon, executive director of the Bluetooth SIG. "Because of the many industries it draws, CES provides a unique opportunity to demonstrate the breadth of Bluetooth applications available to the consumer and business user."

Also at CES, the Bluetooth SIG along with marketing and events specialist GamePlan Marketing executed Operation Blueshock, a smart, unique, and cost- effective way for the non-profit trade association to build awareness around Bluetooth wireless technology.

CES and Operation Blueshock were the kick-off of the Bluetooth SIG's 2004 marketing and public relations campaign targeted at the consumer. "Consumers are largely still in the dark about Bluetooth wireless technology," said Mike McCamon, executive director of the Bluetooth SIG. "But finally, there are enough products on the shelves, and more to come soon as seen by the many product launches at CES, that we believe 2004 is the year the consumer meets Bluetooth wireless technology -- and understands why they want it in their lives."
