From Wi-Fi(1) to WiMAX(1): Towards Freedom in Universal Broadband Mobility
Wi-LAN Inc. (TSX:WIN - News), a global provider of broadband wireless communications products and technologies, presents Dr. Sayed-Amr El-Hamamsy, President and Chief Executive Officer of Wi-LAN, at the Wi-FiPower 2004 conference on March 1-3, Metro Toronto Convention Center. Dr. El-Hamamsy has been invited to speak in the session titled "From Wi-Fi to WiMAX: Towards Freedom in Universal Broadband Mobility". It will explore the evolution and benefits of the new IEEE 802.16 Standard(1) supported by the WiMAX Forum(1), the relationship between Wi-Fi and WiMAX Certified(1) equipment in a network, how businesses can deploy broadband wireless solutions today with a seamless transition to WiMAX Certified equipment in the future, as well as upcoming broadband mobility standards. The presentation will take place on Wednesday, March 3, from 3:15 - 4:15 in Room 205A, North Hall, Metro Toronto Convention Center.
Wi-LAN's CONTINUITY PROGRAM(TM) assures customers that any current LIBRA Customer Premise Equipment (CPE) will operate side by side, in the same network, the same cell and even the same sector with future WiMAX Certified CPE's. The CONTINUITY PROGRAM(TM) will minimize network and revenue disruption and protect customers' investment in current technology when networks are transitioned to WiMAX Certified equipment.
Wi-LAN's LIBRA Series is the only broadband wireless product series in commercial use today that utilizes the same version of OFDM that will form the basis for WiMAX Certified product platforms. This technology is a form of W-OFDM (wide-band orthogonal frequency division multiplexing), patented by Wi-LAN in 1992, which delivers robust outdoor non-line-of-sight performance that Wi-LAN has proven in various commercial networks in over 30 countries worldwide.
