The Open Mobile Alliance (OMA) has announced the Digital Rights Management
2.0 Enabler Release, a set of interoperability standards for protecting
games, audio, and video content from piracy over wireless devices. Version
2.0 offers improved support for streaming content and access via multiple
devices. OMA believes that the stronger encryption and security of the
standard will convince companies to produce more content for mobile
devices. A group of interested companies, including Intel, mm02, Nokia,
Panasonic, RealNetworks, Samsung, and Warner Brothers, have formed a
Content Management License Administrator coalition to oversee licensing and
dissemination of keys and certificates to vendors. A number of companies
have released their own incompatible digital rights management solutions,
creating confusion for consumers.
