National biopharmaceutical companies were responsible for creating more than 6,000 jobs in Missouri and nearly 22,000 in Illinois in 2003, according to a new report from the Santa Monica, Calif.-based Milken Institute, an independent economic think tank.
The report found that 5.5 jobs are created for every new biopharmaceutical position in Missouri. With 6,132 high-skilled, high-tech jobs created by biopharmaceutical companies in Missouri in 2003, the report is projecting that companies will directly create an additional 1,366 in the state by 2014
