Help Out Our Soldiers

ANCHOR LEAD: The VFW wants you. T.K. Anderson has more on what one organization says everyone can do tell help out our soldiers. (: 60)

SCRIPT: Newsbreak, I'm T.K. Anderson. As we prepare to ring in the New Year, the Veterans of Foreign Wars invites you to help our military service members in need by supporting its military Assistance program. National Commander of the VFW, John Furgess.

CUT: (Furgess) Well the military assistance program or as we call it with in the VFW, the MAP program really came about following Operation Desert Storm, when we realized as a veterans organization we simply needed to do a better job in liasoning with our military units overseas and particularly with the family support groups back home.

SCRIPT: Furgess says the MAP program offers different services.

CUT: (Furgess) Many times when the young men or women return he or she may need assistance with employment job opportunities. So our Vetjobs.com is a website that will help that person with employment.

SCRIPT: One time grants of up to $500 are also available to troops families when emergencies come up. To find out more about the emergency assistance program contact you local VFW post. I'm T.K. Anderson.
