Nasty Security Flaw Found In Cisco's Wireless LAN Products April 8, 2004

The holes in Cisco's wireless LAN applications follow the publishing of a hacker toolkit that targeted Cisco customers.

Cisco Systems is warning customers that certain versions of its wireless-LAN-management software contain a security hole that would let attackers redirect users to a potentially malicious Web site or take complete control of a wireless LAN.
In a security advisory, Cisco warned that the flaws are within CiscoWorks WLSE, a management tool for the company's wireless LAN hardware and software, and the Cisco Hosting Solution Engine, which enables data-center services and monitors data-center performance. According to the advisory, the software versions at risk for WLSE include 2.0, 2.0.2, and 2.5. The Hosting Solution Engine-vulnerable software versions include 1.7, 1.7.1, 1.7.2, and 1.7.3.

The security flaw is identical for both applications: There's a default user name and password combination that has been hard-coded into the software.

The beta version of PocketSkype, from Luxembourg-based Skype Technologies, is for users of handhelds powered by a 400 MHz processor with Wi-Fi capability and running the Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT - news) PocketPC OS. It is essentially a mobile version of the company's global VoIP service based on peer-to-peer software.

PocketSkype is designed for a Wi-Fi broadband wireless local area network connection, although it also delivers instant messaging without voice over GPRS wide area networks. Conference calling is available, but cannot be initiated by the software.

New Solutions Expected to Help Customers Lower Costs, Simplify Operations, Extend Infrastructure


DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 6, 2004-- Nortel Networks (NYSE:NT - News; TSX:NT - News) plans to enhance its award-winning enterprise convergence portfolio to help small- and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) as well as enterprise branch offices drive lower communication costs, simplify network operations and extend infrastructure investments by eliminating single-purpose devices in favor of highly-reliable, multi-purpose converged solutions.
The enhancements will include Nortel Networks Survivable Remote Gateway (SRG) and Nortel Networks Business Communication Manager (BCM) Release 3.6. Both are expected to be commercially available in late May 2004.

"Recent analyst reports confirm our leadership position in IP (Internet Protocol) telephony, and we will continue to innovate to maintain the trust of the marketplace," said Aziz Khadbai, general manager, Local Premise Solutions, Nortel Networks. "These solutions offer feature-rich IP telephony options that fit each customer need, allowing for IT investment protection and enabling customers to migrate to IP at their own pace."

Nortel Networks Survivable Remote Gateway has been specifically designed to extend the desktop features and user interface of Nortel Networks Succession 1000 IP PBX (private branch exchange) platform to give remote-site users full access to the same features and applications available at the main corporate site.

SRG will also allow distribution of trunking across a Succession 1000 and SRG wide area network (WAN) to provide true, least-cost routing and reduce toll costs. Local public switched telephone network (PSTN) access will be provided by SRG for local calls and E9-1-1. SRG will provide a suite of IP-based data and routing capabilities, including dynamic host configuration protocol (DHCP), Web caching and Virtual Private Network (VPN) support.

Chimes, a non-profit organization that provides services to people with various barriers to independent living, sees SRG as a good fit for its smaller sites in Maryland, Washington D.C., Delaware, New Jersey, Virginia, Pennsylvania and Israel, many of which are group homes.

"Telecommunications is the key to binding our organization and providing ongoing services to these sites," said Martin Lampner, chief financial officer, Chimes. "We see the SRG solution fitting into the infrastructure as a mechanism to make that 9-1-1 call in emergency situations. Also announced today, BCM Release 3.6 will deliver new functionality to the existing list of standard and optional BCM capabilities. BCM is already recognized by industry experts for outstanding performance and exceptional feature coverage and BCM 3.6 will add a variety of new features, including:

Enhanced Basic, Professional and Multimedia Call Center Packages -- BCM Release 3.6 will create a flexible, robust call center architecture that will allow businesses to meet the needs of its customers with maximum efficiency. The solution to be installed at more than a hundred Scandic hotels by the
summer



HP will be supplying a total solution to all Scandic’s hotels in
Scandinavia. The agreement will give guests at more than 100 Scandic hotels
access to wireless Internet connections as well as stationary computers and
printer services. HP’s solution is based on Aptilo Network’s public WLAN
platform and means that Scandic will be using a single technical platform
for all its hotels.



A growing number of hotels have seen a rising demand for wireless Internet
and therefore need a purpose-built solution to enable secure and dependable
use. For hotels with many business guests, WLAN access in rooms is taken for
granted in the same way as a TV. Scandic offer its guests these services at
no extra cost.



Aptilo’s system solution is today used by more than 300 hotels worldwide and
at a large number of airports, cafés and other public environments. The
