Subject: Scandic Hotels to use Aptilo technology for its WLAN wireless Internet initiative
Press release
Stockholm, Dallas, Kuala Lumpur, 6 April 2004
Scandic Hotels to use Aptilo technology for its WLAN wireless Internet
initiative
The solution to be installed at more than a hundred Scandic hotels by the
summer
HP will be supplying a total solution to all Scandic’s hotels in
Scandinavia. The agreement will give guests at more than 100 Scandic hotels
access to wireless Internet connections as well as stationary computers and
printer services. HP’s solution is based on Aptilo Network’s public WLAN
platform and means that Scandic will be using a single technical platform
for all its hotels.
A growing number of hotels have seen a rising demand for wireless Internet
and therefore need a purpose-built solution to enable secure and dependable
use. For hotels with many business guests, WLAN access in rooms is taken for
granted in the same way as a TV. Scandic offer its guests these services at
no extra cost.
Aptilo’s system solution is today used by more than 300 hotels worldwide and
at a large number of airports, cafés and other public environments. The
system has been developed to handle most payment methods and business models
and is the obvious choice for all professional WLAN users.
HP has previously worked with Aptilo in projects including supplying a
solution for the global operator T-Mobile for its hotspot services in all
its Starbucks coffee shops and Sheraton hotels in the UK.
”Our partnership with HP has been very rewarding. HP supplies the total
solution while we contribute our market-leading solution for handling,
operation and supervision of traffic between Internet access providers and
users,” says Paul Mikkelsen, sales manager at Aptilo Networks.
Aptilo has spent four years developing its solution and has today
installations in more than 30 countries across five continents. Aptilo and
HP have worked together since the spring of 2002.
”With the help of Aptilo Networks’s solutions, HP can deliver total
solutions for wireless Internet connection in places with large numbers of
visitors such as hotels, airports and conference centres. In more recent
times, however, we have also seen a growing demand from schools, public
libraries and other sources that see the service not as a source of income
but a trouble-free way of providing better service,” says Ove Söderberg,
Business Area Manager, Mobile Solutions at HP.
