The Phoenix metro area registered the nation's second-largest non-farm job gain in February, with 37,200 more jobs than during February 2003, the federal government reported Friday.

The Valley trailed only the Washington, D.C., metro area for total job gains. The D.C. area recorded nearly 55,000 new jobs, bringing its total labor force to about 2.9 million. The Phoenix labor force was 1.8 million.
