Help Make Blogs More Visible!

Note: Html code to copy and paste this meme is here:

Help Make Blogs More Visible! Latest Code

NOTE: Be sure you paste live links for the Path List below.

There are by some estimates more than a million weblogs. But most of them get no visibility in search engines. Only a few "A-List" blogs get into the top search engine results for a given topic, while the majority of blogs just don't get noticed. The reason is that the smaller blogs don't have enough links pointing to them. But this posting could solve that. Let's help the smaller blogs get more visibility!

This posting is GoMeme 4.0. It is part of an experiment to see if we can create a blog posting that helps 1000's of blogs get higher rankings in Google. So far we have tried 3 earlier variations. Our first test, GoMeme 1.0, spread to nearly 740 blogs in 2.5 days. This new version 4.0 is shorter, simpler, and fits more easily into your blog.

Why are we doing this? We want to help thousands of blogs get more visibility in Google and other search engines. How does it work? Just follow the instructions below to re-post this meme in your blog and add your URL to the end of the Path List below. As the meme spreads onwards from your blog, so will your URL. Later, when your blog is indexed by search engines, they will see the links pointing to your blog from all the downstream blogs that got this via you, which will cause them to rank your blog higher in search results. Everyone in the Path List below benefits in a similar way as this meme spreads. Try it!
Instructions: Just copy this entire post and paste it into your blog. Then add your URL to the end of the path list below, and pass it on!

Path List

1. Minding the Planet
2. Wireless LAN
3. (your URL goes here! But first, please copy this line and move it down to the next line for the next person).

Intel cool on 802.20 | The Register

Intel cool on 802.20
By Datamonitor
Published Thursday 5th August 2004 07:55 GMT
Intel could be closing the door on the emerging 802.20 mobile broadband wireless access standard after the company admitted to uncertainty surrounding the working group's ability to put aside self-interest. But the chip giant has finally accepted the rise of the Bluetooth short-range wireless technology, which will shortly be accommodated in its wireless LAN chipsets.

Intel's position was outlined at a journalist presentation given by senior executives from its communications group in Palo Alto, California last Friday. Intel's top-line position on wireless technology support was provided by Sean Maloney, executive VP and general manager for the group.

Mr Maloney re-affirmed Intel's commitment to WLAN, WiMax, GSM/GPRS and WCDMA but was equivocal on the likelihood of the company developing chipsets around the IEEE's developing 802.20 standard, also known as mobile broadband wireless access.

EE Times -Startup launches RFID alternative

Startup launches RFID alternative

By Christoph Hammerschmidt
EE Times
August 03, 2004 (12:00 PM EDT)

MUNICH — A German startup company has developed a possible alternative to short-range communications technologies such as RFID, Bluetooth and Near Field Communications (NFC). In contrast to those processes, the company's Skinplex technology uses human skin as a transmission medium.

Skinplex technology could be used between an identifier worn on the user's body and a receiver integrated into a car, for example. A distinct code is transmitted through touch, the receiver recognizes its dedicated, authorized sender, and the car door is opened, for example.

Skinplex technology uses certain electrical specifics inherent to human skin for the transmission. "Skin's resistance includes a real part and an imaginary part," stated Stefan Donat, Ident Technology AG's chief operating officer. "For our data transfer we use a frequency with which the imaginary part disappears." Skinplex transmissions operate at 195 kHz, which is one one of several of these kinds of license-free frequencies.

Wireless LAN Attacks are Moving from Discovery Mode to Manipulation

AirDefense discovers injection and new denial of service attack at DefCon

ATLANTA, Aug. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- AirDefense, the leader in 24x7 wireless
LAN security and monitoring, discovered wireless LAN attacks are evolving from
simple sniffing to complicated data injection and network manipulation while
monitoring the airwaves at DefCon 12, the annual underground hacking
convention held last week in Las Vegas.
"The types of attacks we are seeing are increasingly more sophisticated
than those of years past," said Richard Rushing, chief security officer of
AirDefense. "Whereas last year we noted basic denial of service and MAC
spoofing attacks, this year hackers have moved on to what we refer to as level
three attacks, where hackers are actually injecting traffic into the network
and manipulating data."
AirDefense identified an injection attack where attendees surfing the Web
would receive manipulated images and form data that they had not requested.
Previously, this attack was most often used on the wired side; however,
hackers taking advantage of the open, unencrypted traffic have learned to
adapt the technology to function in the wireless environment.
AirDefense also discovered a new Developer's Kit Denial of Service (DoS)
attack. This type of attack involves modifying firmware on a network card to
allow the cards to send data without having to wait for a signal from the
access point. This type of attack, equivalent to a chattering network card,
can knock people off the network, prevent other users from sending data, or
even allow an individual to take control of the network.
"This is an example of how theoretical attacks are becoming practical. The
only way to identify this type of attack is to use a monitoring system with
multiple analysis engines to detect anomalous behaviors. These types of
attacks are why we are continuing to add theoretical alarms based on
correlation across signature, behavior and policy engines to AirDefense. As
more instances of attackers using developer's kits occur we want to ensure our
customers are equipped to defend their network," said Anil Khatod, president
and CEO of AirDefense.
DefCon remains the defacto conference to view leading edge tools and
techniques. This year DefCon boasted the "Wall of Shame," a large screen that
was displaying passwords and identifying attendees that used "clear-text"
services over the wireless network, including email, Telnet and Instant
Messenger. Originally, the producers of the wall were using "Ethereal" to
capture the traffic and then parceling the data for user names and passwords.
By the second day of the conference the producers of the wall, having become
more adept, began using "Cain and Abel," a more sophisticated tool that
automatically captures passwords.

Computerworld | Ultrawideband: A Better Bluetooth

Ultrawideband: A Better Bluetooth
Matt Hamblen, Computerworld

03/08/2004 09:59:37

The wireless personal-area network technology is more than 100 times faster than Bluetooth, but business applications are still a long way off. Ultrawideband wireless technology has been called "Bluetooth on steroids." Like Bluetooth, its personal-area network (PAN) cousin, UWB is designed to replace cables with short-range, wireless connections, but it offers the much higher bandwidth needed to support multimedia data streams at very low power levels. And because UWB can communicate both relative distance and position, it can be used for tracking equipment, containers or other objects. In a recent technology demonstration, Freescale Semiconductor, showed a UWB device that transmitted at a data rate of 110Mbit/sec at a range of up to 10 meters. That bandwidth is 100 times faster than Bluetooth and twice the capacity of the fastest Wi-Fi networks. It is enough to pump three concurrent video streams over a single UWB connection. Vendors are promising UWB products that support speeds up to 1Gbit/sec.

Motorola's Canopy(TM) Wireless Broadband Deployed in Boston for Support During DNC
Tuesday August 3, 11:00 am ET
Police Increased Security Measures With Canopy Wireless Broadband Network

SCHAUMBURG, Ill., Aug. 3 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- When the Boston Police Department sought added security measures during the July 26-29 Democratic National Convention, it turned to Community WISP, Inc., a wireless Internet service and network provider in the greater Boston area.

Community WISP previously set up a wireless security network along the parade route in downtown Boston in February when the New England Patriots were honored for winning the SuperBowl. Security for the national political convention was more demanding and involved more agencies and departments.

Robert Zakarian, president of Community WISP ( http://www.communitywisp.com ), welcomed the challenge and worked with the local police department to install video surveillance cameras atop 10 downtown office buildings. The pan-zoom cameras operated from a central command center. Real-time video was sent to the command center via Motorola's Canopy wireless broadband radios.

"Motorola is a trusted name among law enforcement agencies, and the Canopy wireless broadband products again proved to be extremely reliable, robust, interference tolerant, secure and easy to install," said Zakarian. "The police department liked the added wireless security system enough during the SuperBowl parade to invite us back for another major event."

Separately, during the Democratic National Convention, the Massachusetts Highway Department enlisted Community WISP to wirelessly connect nine video cameras already installed along the Southeastern Expressway in Boston to monitor traffic in a convertible high occupancy vehicle (HOV) lane.

"The system worked very well," said Christopher Costello, systems project manager with Edwards and Kelcey, the MassHighway subcontractor responsible for the network. "We had nine existing cameras on T1 lines and MassHighway was in the process of relocating video feed from one facility to another and we needed to get it done in the last minute. Community WISP was able to convert all nine camera sites to wireless and to the new location."

In a third Canopy wireless broadband deployment centered around the Democratic National Convention, Community WISP was contracted by a local television news outlet to provide live video feeds from four traffic bottleneck locations. News stations that normally had traffic reporters providing live traffic information from helicopters were grounded because of the no-fly restrictions placed over the greater Boston area during the convention.

"What is evidenced by these successful deployments is that wireless broadband continues to make in-roads in a number of areas, including security operations, surveillance, voice over Internet protocol and video applications. Community WISP and companies like it are able to compete with traditional wired alternatives in providing permanent or temporary secure, reliable Internet connectivity and data services," said Tom Hulsebosch, senior director of sales and marketing for Motorola's Canopy Wireless Broadband group.

Cable Datacom News

Can WiMAX Bring Broadband Wireless Mainstream?
Industry Heavyweights Bet on Technology Standard to Take on Cable and DSL

AUGUST 01, 2004

Special to Cable Datacom News by Martin Weiss
Last month we summarized the early successes achieved by wireless ISPs (WISPs) deploying unlicensed broadband solutions. (See "Wireless Broadband Getting Up To Speed"). These WISPs operate primarily in underserved Tier 2 and 3 markets, delivering broadband IP services to a mix of small businesses and, to a lesser extent, residential customers, typically using pre-standard equipment. While these pioneering efforts have made some headway, the approach does not seem to offer the ingredients needed for broadband wireless to scale in competitive major metropolitan areas.

"For the good small [wireless] operators, it's an exciting time for them, but it's also challenging because early successes run a risk of making people think that they have the model figured out. And everyone has to keep learning and reconfiguring the plan," said Andrew Krieg, president of the Wireless Communications Association (WCA).
