AARP Launches National Hiring Campaign to Connect Older Workers With Jobs

By the year 2010, one in three workers will be at least 50 years old. As Baby Boomers reach retirement age, the pool of replacement workers won't be large enough to meet the nation's labor demands. According to AARP, half of its 35 million members are still working or want to work. Now, the organization has launched a new Workforce Initiative campaign to help Americans age 50 and older stay in the workforce.

The AARP Foundation's Workforce Initiative program aims to achieve the following goals:

Connect mature workers with job opportunities by linking them with skills assessment and training resources

Provide connections for workers who want full or part-time jobs or new careers

Act as a resource to large and small companies to help them understand the needs of their older workforce

As part of the program, AARP has also recognized thirteen "Featured Employers"- companies that have committed to the aggressive recruiting, hiring and retaining of mature workers. These companies include: Adecco, AlliedBarton Security Services, Borders Group Inc., Express Personnel Services, Johns Hopkins Health Systems, Kelly Services, Manpower Inc., MetLife, Inc., Pitney Bowes, Principal Financial Group, The Home Depot, Universal Health Services and Walgreens.

Job seekers can visit AARP's website to learn about each Featured Employer, including jobs available, benefits and how to apply.
