The U.S. Department of Labor has partnered with the U.S. Department of Education, the Construction Industry Round Table, the National Association of Home Builders and the National Heavy and Highway Alliance to educate young people, parents, teachers and job seekers about the plentiful career opportunities in the skilled trades and design/construction management.

Over One Million Jobs Expected to Open in the Next Decade

So many young Americans are frustrated with the search for a fulfilling career. Throughout history, the skilled workforce has been the heart and soul of our country. Now, the U.S. Department of Labor has partnered with the U.S. Department of Education, the Construction Industry Round Table, the National Association of Home Builders and the National Heavy and Highway Alliance to educate young people, parents, teachers and job seekers about the plentiful career opportunities in the skilled trades and design/construction management.

Over the next decade, more than one million jobs will be created in the construction trades. Many more jobs will open as Baby Boomers retire. Trades such as construction laborer, operating engineer, carpenter, iron worker, cement mason and bricklayer are in high demand as are more skilled positions such as engineer, construction manager and architects. As demand increases, so will the need for men and women with the skills to get the job done.

Young men and women who decide to pursue a career in the skilled trades and design/construction management can earn enough to support a family, buy a home, and finance a secure retirement. Those with an entrepreneurial spirit will find ample opportunity to have businesses of their own

Knowing your job makes a difference is important. In the skilled trades, you can take pride in knowing you've built something that will last for generations.
